Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Lewis

Dr. Lewis

Dr. Lewis hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to St. Paul for veterinary school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She decided she enjoyed the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and stayed to practice after graduation. Suburban Animal Hospital was her first job out of veterinary school and she has stayed there ever since. Dr. Lewis loves getting to know clients and helping to promote the human-animal bond. Her interests include dermatology, ophthalmology, and geriatric care. In her spare time, Dr. Lewis enjoys reading, playing video games, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and spending time with her husband. She is an avid Star Trek fan and will gladly talk to you about this for hours (after examining your pet)!

Dr. Kurtz

Dr. Kurtz

Dr. Kurtz grew up in Shawano, WI and moved to Minnesota for college, where she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Biology. She then worked in research and at a veterinary dermatology clinic prior to attending veterinary school. Dr. Kurtz attended St. George’s University, located on the beautiful Caribbean island of Grenada, for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and completed her clinical year training at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Kurtz joined Suburban Animal Hospital in February 2020. Her professional interests include dermatology, dentistry, and surgery. In her spare time, Dr. Kurtz enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her pug mix named Jax.

Dr. Tara Sime

Dr. Tara Sime

Dr. Tara Sime graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. She then did a 1 year internship at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee. Upon return she worked at Suburban Animal Hospital for 1 year prior to returning to the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 for a 3 year residency in Emergency and Critical Care. Upon completion, she was board certified in the specialty. She is currently sharing her time at the University in the Emergency and Critical Service and Suburban Animal Hospital. She very much enjoys caring for pets and their people. Providing preventative and wellness care is wonderful for her, but she also has a passion for caring for those that may be unwell and in need of diagnostics and a spectrum of support or treatment.

Dr. Michael Sime

Dr. Michael Sime

Dr. Michael Sime received his veterinary degree in 1998 from the University of Minnesota. He then completed a 1 year rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Thereafter, he returned home to Minnesota and began taking over work from his father, Dr. Donald Sime who had run Suburban Animal Hospital since 1968. After growing up in the practice and helping his Dad over many years in many capacities, receiving his doctorate degree and advanced training allowed him to continue the family’s mission to provide high quality pet care. He enjoys all aspects of care provided at the clinic, but has a special interest in surgery, ultrasound, and dentistry.

Pets Feel at Home In Our Veterinary Hospital

We understand that going to the doctor can seem as stressful for animals as it does for humans, and we do our best to help our patients feel better once they’re here. Our clinic offers separate waiting rooms for dogs and cats so each animal can feel safe and mingle with their own species. Once it’s time for your appointment, we do what we can to make you and your pet feel comfortable. The knowledgeable staff at our clinic have the skills and compassion to ensure that the beloved dogs and cats who come to us are provided the highest quality of care.
